Kindergarten

Mrs. Julie Stockes grew up in Auburn, California and attended a private Christian School until she graduated from high school.  She then moved to San Diego, California to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and a Master's Degree in Education. She is married and has a 25 year old son and 22 year old daughter. While attending college, she worked as a Head Start Preschool Director for 3 years and then taught in a 4th/5th combination classroom at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School the following year. Mrs. Stockes then began her career in public schools in San Diego and taught for 4 years in a bilingual Kindergarten classroom.  She also taught first grade for 3 more years in San Diego.  During the time Mrs. Stockes was teaching first grade in San Diego she participated in over 200 hours of training in an intensive reading recovery program that delves into the science of reading and which is used to help struggling readers. When she moved from  California she worked as a literacy coach in 3 different schools for 6 years which involved training other teachers and working in various classrooms to support the teachers in their use of best practices for teaching reading. After being a literacy coach, she taught 2nd grade for one year and first grade for 11 years in Phoenix Elementary School District; she also worked as a reading interventionist for one year in that same district..  In May of this year Mrs. Stockes received a certificate from Phoenix Elementary School District for having the most growth in Math in all of the first-grade classrooms in the district and a certificate in reading for good growth as well. She  recently retired from the public school system and felt that a Kindergarten position at the Phoenix Hebrew Academy would be the perfect fit for her talents and experience.  Mrs. Stockes is looking forward to working with all the kindergarten children this coming year as the General Studies Kindergarten Teacher.
